A Letter to Mommy

Walking around Tesco earlier just now, feeling really lonely at a moment while memories keep flashes back related to mommy.

Yes. I spends lots of time with mommy in various supermarket/hypermarket/night market/ etc. Especially Giant/Carefour/Tesco.

Walking towards beverage area, mommy always never fail to ask "Vitagen? Yogurt? or the Nestle Fruit Milk? as she knows that it's good for health, and I being the retarded one always finish them up in one day time.

Vegetable and spices smells reminds me a lot of how mom used to teach me and lecture me about how and where she would use them on her own cooking.

Choosing Garlic, Onion, Potatoes, Taufu, Vegetables, Fish, Fruits like apple, orange, etc... those smells will always reminds me of mom. Mom always appears wherever i drop by any hypermarket. Walking thru every corner/blocks of display hoping to see mom appeared.

Tears flow with those smells and she just appears in my mind. My hands used to always position at her shoulder while doing our grocery shopping... Her hands used to always try hold my hands as if i am still a kiddo. that's why i prefer to put my hand on her shoulder and just gives her a tickle when she nag or talk too much. Hints Hints! It's really good to try to change topic or make ur mom smile by tickling her rather than to get annoyed by ur mom's love aka. NAG.

Awwwwhhhhh gosh.. i used to live in the world of Noise aka NAG which is also the other way to express love from our mother.

It's too quiet now... just too quiet nowadays.

Chinese New Year in few weeks time, Opening up ALLLLLLL the boxes of chinese orange just to pick the best orange is always a must do every year for me and mom. Yeah i know we're CINA.
but no one wants to pay for a broken phone if you were to buy a phone aint? Passing by those boxes of Chinese Orange just tricked my tears to start dancing in my eyes...

More & more favor from God through Church and different ones that i am getting so much enquiries and different different job from different ones. There's just so many that i will have to reject some, what to do! STUDY FIRST!

Cried two times today in church, during morning service when people responded to the Lord!

another time during evening service, a whole group of 7 teens responded to the Lord!

Knowing what our awesome God can do in our life really soften my heart and tears just flow out of me, am really grateful to know such a wonderful God...

Tuesday while i was getting my photography assessment done for presentation on Wednesday.

SEGi called at 1.30pm

SEGi: Where are you? aren't you suppose to be in college by now?

Travis: Huh? what? what's happening? (wondering if i did anything wrong)

SEGi: Didn't you know you are suppose to attend an interview session with the MQA (Malaysian Qualification Agencies) at 2pm later?

Travis: WHAT!? ain't i am supposed to be inform earlier about this?

SEGi: We already called you the other day to inform you aint?

Travis: Sorry "xxxx" i don't seems to remember of getting any calls from SEGi about MQA

SEGi: Doesn't matter, dress up well and come now!

I was in a friend house in Kelana Jaya, in the midst of preparing for assessment and i got such call...

3 MQA representative throw out lots of questions at 4 of the Video & ANimation student, luckily there's a senior there to answer some questions that i don't know about the college.

Wednesday: Yeah! Photography Studio & Lighting Presentation TIME!

OMGOSH! suddenly 10+ MQA representative came into the class and they are gonna sit through the assessment.

What a lucky day! everyone else took lecturer for granted and were still preparing their presentation, and lucky us sitting right in front of the lecturer doing nothing but waiting.

Malaysia Day now a public holiday, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning next year, Sept 16, which is Malaysia Day has been declared a public holiday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the day would involve activities that would foster the 1Malaysia spirit.

He added this meant Malaysians would have a twin celebration, to commemorate the country’s independence starting next year

Najib said National Day on Aug 31 would be celebrated with formal events such as a parade to commemorate the historical moment and it would remind the people about the struggle in achieving independence from the colonists.

He made the announcement during the question-and-answer session at Parliament on Monday.

Najib said Sabah and Sarawak, which joined Malaysia in 1963 and the formation of Malaysia as an independent country was a very important moment in history.

“We want the joy and sorrows of the people in Sabah and Sarawak to be felt by the people in the Peninsula,” he said.

“Therefore, I would like to announce to the people of Malaysia that the Cabinet has recently made the decision to celebrate Hari Malaysia on Sept 16 starting 2010.”

Malaysia Day would be celebrated with events that would foster closer unity, understanding between the different races and community success and achievement through sports, social culture and arts, to spur the 1Malaysia spirit, he added.

Misconception on face masks against H1N1 infection

The over-emphasis on wearing face masks is giving people a false sense of safety. Most people think that wearing face masks will prevent H1N1 virus from infecting them and the constant reminder of the government reinforces this thinking. The truth is that face masks do not effectively prevent anyone from getting infected by H1N1 because H1N1 is not an airborne virus.

Taken from a website - [...to be considered an airborne virus, the microorganism would have to survive or remain in the air for long periods of time. The H1N1 virus, like all influenza viruses do not stay in the air in some sort of suspended animation. When a person sneezes, the virus is transferred via the droplets of the sneeze, if someone is infected this way it is known as infection by "Droplet contact" or a "Respiratory Route".]

Recommendations to prevent spread of the virus among humans include using standard infection control against influenza. This includes frequent washing of hands with soap and water or with alcohol-based hand sanitizers, especially after being out in public. Chance of transmission is also reduced by disinfecting household surfaces, which can be done effectively with a diluted chlorine bleach solution.]

Read also this article from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US - http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/qa.htm. CDC does not mention prevention using face masks at all in the article.

Face masks prevent those people who have cough or cold from spewing saliva and/or mucus onto surfaces when they cough or sneeze. Whoever touches the contaminated surfaces will then get infected by the virus. Anyone not wearing face masks should cough or sneeze into a tissue and dispose it properly into the trash bin after use.

Many people tend to cough or sneeze into their hands and when they touch a handrail or door knob, the virus is transferred onto these surfaces. Because they do not know that the H1N1 virus transmits via surface contamination, they do not take preventive measures to avoid spreading the virus.

For someone to get infected directly, the infected person must literally cough or sneeze into his face. In this scenario, wearing a face mask will reduce the chance of getting infected while the virus is still suspended in the air in that very short time and has not dropped onto the surface. But people don't cough or sneeze into someone else's face.

To avoid being infected by H1N1 or any other flu virus, avoid touching surfaces in public areas such as handrails, etc. Avoid touching our noses or mouths with our hands until after washing our hands. Almost all of those who died of H1N1 had pneumonia or lungs failure. The most direct route of infection is via our noses and mouths.

I have seen many people at train and bus stations wearing face masks who pull down their face masks to rub their noses and touch their mouths. If their hands had been contaminated by the H1N1 virus then they would have been infected, despite wearing face masks.

After touching any surfaces, quickly wash hands with soap or sanitizer. Surfaces must be wiped clean as often as possible with a mild chlorine-based cleanser. How often do we see anyone wiping escalator handrails, elevator control panels or table tops? All everyone talk about is face masks when cleaning surfaces is more important and effective to kill the virus.

The public has not been informed about surface contamination and infection by the Ministry of Health, only to wear face masks and to wash hands properly. This is a gross irresponsibility on their part and a factor and reason why H1N1 continue to spread in Malaysia.

H1N1- Unpublicized preventative steps (Personal)

Friends,

Thanks to media hype about H1N1, I’ve received calls from several who trust me, to advise. The hype in media about the utility of face masks and N95 as a tool for general protection against H1N1 can’t be deplored enough. Today, a friend who listened wanted me to write down briefly what I advised so that he could tell others in similar words. Hence this short email to friends whom I have advised recently. Please realize that this is not an official advice, especially the one about face masks or N95.

Most N95 respirators are designed to filter 95% particulates of 0.3µ, while the size of H1N1 virus is about 0.1µ. Hence, dependence on N95 to protect against H1N1 is like protecting against rain with an umbrella made of mosquito net.

Tamiflu does not kill but prevents H1N1 from further proliferation. H1N1, like other Influenza A viruses, only infects the upper respiratory tracts and proliferates (only) there. The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/ throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it’s almost impossible not coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions.Contact with H1N1 is not the problem but proliferation is..

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps — not fully highlighted in most official communications — can be practised (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications)

2. “Hands-off-the-face” approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don’t trust salt).. H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one.Don’t underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. Not everybody may be good at Sutra Neti (a very good Yoga asana to clean the nasal cavities), but blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.Happy breathing

The prime minister also advised the people to take comprehensive preventive measures after the H1N1 death toll rose to 14 as of Thursday and many schools and tertiary institutions had been closed due to cases of infections. No, but I'll be in big trouble as all the latest updates of my schedule + events + important announcement of different stuff I am in will not reach me and I may cause a bigger problem to someone else or some other events.

No, but I'll be in big trouble as I'll need to spend roughly RM100 extra every week for transportation as it's hard to take bus from my area to the place i need to go, Taxi is my only choice without car. Beautiful People : Hey dude, what are you doing now actually?

Travis : I am working as a freelancer, at the same time studying!

Beautiful People : What are you studying & working at the moment?

Travis : Haha, am currenlty doing Diploma in Video&Animation in SEGi Kota Damansara. Working as a freelance wedding video/cinematographer.

Beautiful People : What about photography?

Travis : Nope, not anytime at the moment although i do receive some enquiries for it, don't think i am ready for professional standard for a photography services yet, give me a bit more time to get used to my new toy. I do help people to do paparazi and collect some fund for some new addons for the toy.

Beautiful People : If not mistaken, you did pre-u aint?

Travis : Yes yes, I finished my pre-u, wasted 1 semester of life in UniSA doing Degree in Marketing then, work & lepak for quite a while and now I am back to school.

Beautiful People : How did you get into production business?

Travis : Well i guess it's God's will. Since I started serving God in ACTSTV, I realized that I enjoy doing everything I do at the same time while serving, and miracle do happens whenever I does a video, different different ideas always comes in even thou i didn't plan anything. I guess that's the power of prayer. When we ask, God provides. From ACTSTV to online tutorial, i slowly build up my video skills and yes again, i really love doing videos althought it's time consuming.

Beautiful People : What so fun about wedding videography, one whole day shooting weh...

Travis : It's not about work when u love doing something u need to do, it's more like playing with what you have to do and present it well to your customer. The most important thing is, I really love seeing couples getting together and " I DO I DO I DO " I mean, this is the day where i guess you could see most of the romantic/smiley/touching moments of a couple. Althought it might be tiring shooting one whole day, but when I'm into it my friend "tired" actually comes to me only after i finish shooting as there's no time for me to think about tired while shooting hahaha...

oh yeah, ekm... everytime i see/does a wedding, of course i feels like getting married soon... lol

but well, not the right time yet. A lot money needed to have a great wedding man!!!

Mia joined Groove Unction, a local jazz band led by legendary jazz guitarist, Jose Thomas. She learnt to swing. She learnt to jam. She learnt to scat. Being a small town girl in a big city provided plenty of material for writing songs, and it was during this time that she was churning out one song after another. Her music is centred around the guitar, working with folkish tunes and bossa nova moods. Her lyrics are always story-based, relating her personal experiences with the people and places around her. After much trial and error, Mia released her first solo single, 'Sayang' in September 2006. Her much anticipated first solo album, 'Finding My Way', was recently released in April 2008 in Malaysia, and she subsequently toured in Singapore and Indonesia. It was a first in many ways: her first time playing guitar on her own record, her first time recording a fully original album and, perhaps her most proud first, her first time playing producer. Mia has sung for kings, travelled the world as a public speaker and a vocalist, and, most recently, begun exploring the world of cartoons as a voice actor. She has played moms, princesses, queens, witches, rats, mermaids and even boys! One of her cartoons, Bola Kampung, is currently being aired on Disney Channel Asia. Mia has also experimented with theater. In 2005, she directed and starred in her own jazz show, ‘Swinging Down To Business’ which was nominated for 4 Boh Cameronian Awards. Mia's first theatrical debut was in M! The Opera, a contemporary opera musical which was staged at Istana Budaya in 2006. She continued to explore the world of acting in Ann Lee's award winning play, Tarap Man, in 2007. This year, Mia joined the cast of Broadway Parodies Lagi Lah! which was first staged at KLPac and then went on to tour Ipoh, Penang, Johor and Sabah. Mia's famed curiosity has recently led her to dabble with television. Zee Avi

Zee Avi is just 23 but she’s an old soul. A huge talent in a petite frame bringing a universal message from the unlikely birthplace of Borneo, an ancient island east of Malaysia which remains an untouched, natural paradise, an apt description of her songs.

How Avi came to record her debut album in L.A., the first joint release from Ian Montone’s Monotone Label and Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records, is a true 21st century tale of the way the Internet has transformed the music business and shrunk the globe in the process.

Born in the tiny town of Miri in Sarawak on the island of Borneo, Zee grew up near the South China Sea in a liberal, encouraging household where her father owned an energy consultancy. “I was bred to be a lawyer,” she says, but music was in her blood. Her father’s father sang and played double-bass, accordion, violin and guitar in bands.

At age 12, Zee moved from Borneo to Kuala Lumpur where she has been based since. At 17, Zee started locking herself in a room for hours on end to learn to play guitar. Guitar took a back seat for 4 years while she was studying fashion design in London. When she returned to Kuala Lumpur, she picked the instrument back up and began writing songs and performing with a band.

Zee began recording her songs on a webcam and posting them on YouTube for a friend to hear. “I remember getting so excited when there was one new comment from some random person I didn’t know… One read ‘I’m lost for words - I shall favorite it and ponder if that’s OK,’ ” which was written by Kris Rowley, a U.K. singer-songwriter with a YouTube following under the name Zzzzzzzzap. He began posting her videos on his site, which began a viral snowball effect.

The day before her 22nd birthday, Zee posted what she intended to be “my last video,” a holiday song, “No Christmas for Me.” By the time she checked her e-mail Avi had almost 3,000 messages including a slew of label offers. One email came from Ian Montone, who had been shown the YouTube clip by Raconteurs’ drummer, Patrick Keeler, prompting Montone to get in touch and offer to release her music on the Monotone Label.

Before she knew it Zee was on a plane to L.A. to record her debut with producer Robert Carranza at Brushfire’s Solar Powered Plastic Plant. “No Christmas for Me” was then featured on the holiday charity album, This Warm December, A Brushfire Holiday, Vol. 1.

With an eclectic pool of influences that range from such eccentrics as Cat Power, Regina Spektor, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Jolie Holland, Daniel Johnston and Chris Garneau, to jazz greats Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, to classics like Velvet Underground and Led Zeppelin, this self-described “rock lover at heart” captures the dark, bittersweet qualities of romance with a crack left open for hope and optimism.

From the sensuous scat singing on “Honey Bee” to the sultry break-up song, “Is This the End,” recalling the existential longing of Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is,” Zee is hopeful of finding love, but equally aware of lurking heartache.

The songs on Zee Avi’s debut are about an outsider’s desire to belong and the tentative hope of moving on, filled with regret and loss, but boasting an impish, worldly wise sensibility.
“I tend to be a loner,” she nods. ” ‘Honey Bee’ is about a romance between two nonconformists who are different from the rest of the hive, and are trying to avoid the pressure to be like everybody else.”

“Just You and Me,” the first song she wrote on ukulele, has a ‘20s New Orleans swing jazz vibe.

“I get my melodic feel from the simplicity of classic jazz, people singing what they felt with straightforward lyrics and not too many harmonies,” Zee says. “Just a lot of honesty. I’m a girl of simple pleasures.

The elemental acoustic guitar of “Story of…” is enhanced with an Eno-like ambience that add to its shimmering quality, while “Poppy” is autobiographical “with a little bit of poetic license” that looks back at the demise of a two-year relationship.

“My stuff is pretty dark,” Zee admits. “Most of my songs are about the reality side of romance, outlets to vent my emotions.”

While her live experience amounts to playing gigs in Kuala Lumpur, Zee appeared this January on From the Basement, the U.K. TV webcast/broadcast that has featured Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Damien Rice, the White Stripes and the Shins. From the Basement will also air on the U.S.‘s IFC Channel.

From Malaysia to Los Angeles, Zee Avi is enjoying the ride and ready to take on passengers. “I’m still pinching myself” she gushes. “My parents always told me it’s important to keep yourself grounded. I’m thankful, but at the same time, I just want to jump through the roof. It’s been a pretty amazing journey, getting to work with some really wonderful people, a blessing, really.”

Zee Avi’s Monotone/Brushfire Records debut returns that blessing…and then some.

Monotone Records is owned by Ian Montone, whose Monotone, Inc. manages the White Stripes, M.I.A., The Shins, Vampire Weekend, the Raconteurs, Against Me!, Cold War Kids, Crookers, among others.

Brushfire Records is owned by Jack Johnson and his manager Emmett Malloy and is home to artists like Rogue Wave, Matt Costa, Neil Halstead, Money Mark, G. Love, Mason Jennings, ALO and Zach Gill.
